Dhruvee Haldankar on Ila Arun, Rama Pandey, and Her Father’s Legacy in Beyond the Frame, Beyond Fear

Actress Dhruvee Haldankar, who has recently turned author with a book called Beyond the Frame, Beyond Fear based on her father Deepak Haldankar a noted cinematographer, speaks about the talented sisters Ila Arun and Rama Pandey. Both the sisters were deeply connected with Dhruvee’s late father. Sharing more on them she says,” Ila Arun and Rama Pandey are sisters of Piyush Pandey, and they have always been like family to me.

How Ila Arun’s Film Mundan Became a Family Milestone

I grew up around them and have received a lot of warmth and guidance from both of them over the years. As a child artist, I had the opportunity to act in Rama Aunty’s NCERT programmes and serials, which was a wonderful early exposure to the world of performance and storytelling. My father also worked closely with her and shot several films that were directed by Rama Pandey.

One of the earliest associations goes back to Ila Arun’s first film, Mundan, which was shot by my father, Deepak Haldankar. That collaboration was quite special for our family. In fact, I have spoken about the fascinating story behind how it all began in my book Beyond the Frame, Beyond Fear.”

Sharing her early memories with them Dhruvee Haldankar says,”They would often visit our home in Delhi, and those are memories I truly cherish. I remember celebrating birthdays together with Rama Aunty’s son, Nihar Saquib, and Ishita Arun. We had such wonderful times celebrating at places like the Railway Museum, the Indian Mountaineering Federation, and the Doll Museum.

Those were simple but beautiful childhood moments filled with laughter and warmth. I must mention here their support means a great deal to me. I truly believe it comes from the love and respect they had for my father and the goodwill he created through his work and relationships. That legacy of warmth and trust is something I deeply value, and it has encouraged them to stand by me in this endeavour as well.” When asked about Ila Arun’s work which has deeply inspired Dhruvee Haldankar, she says,”Ila Arun is truly precious.

Her talent as a singer and actor is something I have always admired. I grew up listening to her evergreen songs and even danced to many of them as a child. Whether it is her distinctive voice in music or her strong screen presence in cinema, she brings a unique charm and authenticity to everything she does, and that is what makes her work so memorable.”
