Sara Khan: Women Should Stop Feeling Guilty About Prioritising Their Careers

Sara Khan, best known for her role as Sadhana Rajvansh in Sapna Babul Kaa… Bidaai, and soon to be seen in the Hindi film Bedaag, has always been an advocate for empowering women. She emphasizes how much society has evolved in terms of women balancing demanding careers and their roles at home. Reflecting on the past, Sara shares that women were often forced to make sacrifices due to limited options and the societal expectation to do it all. However, she believes things have changed significantly today.
Sara Khan explains, “Our mothers made sacrifices not because they wanted to, but because they had no choice. The support system for women back then was limited, and societal norms expected them to do everything on their own. Today, things are changing, and I love that!”
The actress is a strong advocate for the idea that women no longer need to carry the burden of everything alone. Sara Khan says, “Women today are juggling demanding careers and homes, it’s not a one-person job anymore. Accepting help isn’t a sign of weakness; it’s a sign of smart management. Let’s normalise that.”
When asked whether she feels a woman’s career is interrupted after becoming a mother, Sara Khan acknowledges the challenge, yet firmly believes it shouldn’t be the case. “It shouldn’t, but in many cases, it does. The break after childbirth is natural, but the problem is society often assumes she won’t return. That mindset needs to change. Women are proving daily that they can have both — a thriving career and a happy family.”
Sara Khan also urges women to stop feeling guilty about prioritising their careers. “A strong support system, whether it’s family, a partner, or even workplace flexibility, can help make the transition back smoother,” She adds, stressing the importance of a supportive environment in navigating both professional and personal spheres.
