Sucheta Khanna Reflects On The Family-Like Experience Of Office Office Chali Musaddi Ki Beti
There are sets that actors show up to, and there are sets that actors remember. For Sucheta Khanna, the making of Eagle Films’ Office Office Chali Musaddi Ki Beti was firmly the second kind, and she speaks about it with the warmth of someone who genuinely did not want it to end.
The environment, she says, was unlike anything she could have scripted. Sucheta Khanna said, “The environment on the set is very home-like. Actually, that’s the right word. I enjoyed a lot shooting with everyone because the best part was that we all ate together. This is Eagle Films’ very special USP; their catering is fantastic. Normally, what actors do is they bring food from home and hardly have production food. But here, we had a caterer on the set. Whenever you felt hungry, whatever you wanted, everything was available to you.”
Sucheta Khanna Recalls The Warm Atmosphere On Set
“We had hot, fresh food being served to us. And sometimes, on special occasions, Umesh ji used to come on the sets and get us amazing food from his house. So, it was like a double treat for us,” Sucheta Khanna added.
The creative freedom the director gave them was equally nourishing. Sucheta Khanna said, “Rajan Wagdhare made it very easy for all of us actors. He didn’t have the rigid mindset at all that it has to be done only this way or that way. He gave us full freedom to perform. And that’s how we all kind of tuned in very well and started understanding each other.”
The Creative Freedom That Helped Actors Shine
“The senior actors started understanding the youngsters, and then we started acting, acting, action, reaction, and responses. And we got to know each other also in a better way by the end of the show. So, it was a very wonderful, home-like experience,” Sucheta Khanna added.
Rajan Wagdhare’s particular method for shooting comedy is something Sucheta Khanna knows well, having worked with him across multiple shows over the years. She said, “Rajan ji has a very particular way of shooting scenes, especially comedy.” And knowing him, he is a king of comedy. By far one of the best directors in comedy we have on television.”
“His set pattern is to do lines. So we have three, four, five, or as many rehearsals as we need; all the artists sit together and run the lines for the scenes until everyone’s lines are clear. And right there, improvisations happen. After incorporating all of that, we go on the floors. Right on time, he starts, he does a phenomenal job, and by the end of the scene, we are all laughing,” Sucheta Khanna added.
Sucheta Khanna Praises Umesh Mehra’s Leadership And Hospitality
And then there is Umesh Mehra, a figure she approaches with a combination of professional reverence and personal warmth that is hard to separate. She said, “Umesh Mehra ji, I am too small to speak about him because he has been a legendary director. Their production house has done so much work, and he has so much experience. Total respect to that. But besides that, there lies a human being who is a wonderful host. With so much love, he doted on all the actors so much.”
“For everyone, he was always encouraging when it came to work. His suggestions were very, very well taken. He would come, spend quality time with us, and that was such a wonderful thing. Because to have someone like that helming the project and giving us that quality time and doting on us, that is indeed a blessing, and I have loved working with him on this show,” Sucheta Khanna ended.
