EXCLUSIVE: Naman Shaw On Mangal Lakshmi Being Compared To Anupamaa; “There’s No Point Of Comparisons”

In an exclusive chat with Downtown Mirror Weekly, Naman Shaw aka Adit from Mangal Lakshmi spoke about his show being compared to popular show Anupamaa.

Naman Shaw made a grand re-entry into showbiz with popular show Mangal Lakshmi co-starring Deepika Singh. The show highlighted how a woman sacrifices in a forced marriage while her husband enjoys an extramarital affair with his colleague. Fans noticed that the plot of the show is quite similar to the initial track of Star Plus’ Anupamaa.

Downtown Mirror Weekly got in touch with Naman Shaw who plays the character of Adit in Mangal Lakshmi and asked him about the constant comparison between Mangal Lakshmi and Anupamaa. He said, “I don’t know why Mangal Lakshmi was constantly compared with Anupamaa.

I’m happy that lately people have realised that this show is completely different from Anupamaa. Mangal Lakshmi started off as a story about two sisters and but over time the story evolved and took on a new direction.. This is our story.”

Naman Shaw added, “People have loved Mangal Lakshmi not because it is a copy, they’ve loved it because of the performance and the fast storytelling. I think the USP of our show is the pace of the story; it is so fast paced and I think everyone has performed brilliantly on this show.

The bottom line is that people are loving the show. In the last one and half years, Mangal Lakshmi and Udne Ki Aasha have been the most successful shows, I am very happy. There’s no point of comparison, both shows are quite different.”

When asked if Naman expected Mangal Lakshmi to be this successful, Naman Shaw replied, “Well, this show was my return to television after six years. Why would I take up a project when I didn’t believe in it?  The day I heard the story, I was completely hooked.

Mangal Lakshmi is a very basic show with a story of a typical housewife and her struggles. All the characters in the show are quite authentic and relatable. Even my character is quite relatable. Adit is not a decorated or a righteous character; because people in real life aren’t like that. I loved the character and I did believe that the show would strike a chord with the viewers within a month of shooting for the same.”
