US-based Indian-origin stylist and actor Anjali Phougat expressed deep sadness over the demise of veteran actor Nana Patekar.
Remembering the legendary actor and his contribution to Indian cinema, Anjali says she always admired the honesty and depth he brought to his work.
The film industry has lost a gem of an actor with Nana Patekar’s demise.
My first reaction was one of profound disbelief and sadness.
Some artists become so deeply woven into the cultural fabric of a country that their presence feels almost eternal.
Nana Patekar was one of those rare artists, she says.
Talking about what made Nana Patekar stand apart as an actor, Anjali adds, He did not merely perform a character. He inhabited it.
His body language, his eyes, his silences, his pauses and, above all, his voice became part of the character.
He was never chasing the idea of being a star; he was chasing the truth of the character.

For Anjali, Nana Patekar’s performances in films like Krantiveer, Prahaar and Khamoshi remain particularly memorable.
She says, Krantiveer has always carried a particular emotional power for me.
His performance had anger, vulnerability, patriotism, pain and conviction all living inside the same character.
I also deeply admire Prahaar because it represents something much larger than cinema.
Speaking about his lasting impact, she says, Nana Patekar ji was never afraid of showing human beings with all their contradictions.
He did not polish humanity for the camera. He presented it as it was. That honesty created depth.
Anjali believes his legacy will continue to inspire young artists. She adds, Nana Patekar ji leaves behind something far greater than a filmography.
He leaves behind a lesson in what it means to be an artist.
He showed us that you need authenticity, discipline, courage and the willingness to give everything you have to your craft.
Paying her final tribute, Anjali says, His voice may have fallen silent, but the characters he gave life to and the emotions he awakened will continue to speak for him.
Truth does not have an expiry date.
