For him, true financial independence means caring for loved ones without limitations.

Actor Rajat Verma, known for his roles in Beyhadh 2, Dahej Daasi, Ishq Par Zor Nahi, Jamuniya, and currently seen in Itni Si Khushi, opens up about his journey with money from earning his first paycheck to learning life-long financial lessons from his father.

My First Paycheck Was ₹2,400

Rajat vividly recalls the pride of earning his first salary. “I still remember it very clearly,” he says, adding, “It was a very, very small amount, but it meant the world to me. I did a radio show for All India Radio a three-day voice-over job.

They paid ₹800 per day, so I earned ₹2,400 in total. It felt amazing because I had earned money doing something I truly loved acting, theatre, something connected to my craft.”

That pay-check was more than just money it was a milestone. He shares, “After that, I threw a small party with my friends. I didn’t give the money to my mom, but I told her about it. She laughed and said, ‘Enjoy it. What will I do with ₹2400?’ I treated my friends and mentors at the theatre we had a little tea party. That’s how I celebrated.”

My Father Taught Me Never To Mix Money With Relationships

Reflecting on his financial journey, Rajat says he learned the real value of money once he began managing everything himself. He says, “I realised how much effort it takes to earn even a single rupee. It gave me a new perspective on my parents’ struggles. My father worked so hard so that I could live a life where I don’t have to worry about money while making decisions. That understanding deepened my respect for him and my mother.”

When asked what financial independence means to him, he replies, “It’s not just about earning money. It’s about having the freedom to make choices and to take care of my loved ones without worrying about limitations. That, to me, is true independence.”

Sharing his father’s timeless financial wisdom, Rajat adds, “My dad taught me three things: earn honestly, spend wisely, and save with discipline. That’s my mantra. He also taught me never to mix money with relationships because relationships are priceless, and money can sometimes ruin them.”
