Welcoming Prosperity: Pranitaa Pandit On The True Essence Of Dhanteras

Actress Pranitaa Pandit shares how Dhanteras holds a deeper meaning in her life—rooted in gratitude, family traditions, and conscious celebration.

For her, true prosperity lies not in material wealth but in harmony, health, and heartfelt connections.

As the festive season sets in, homes across India begin to glow with lights, laughter, and the timeless rituals that mark Dhanteras, the first step into Diwali. It’s a day devoted to prosperity, health, and spiritual well-being, and for actress Pranitaa Pandit, it carries a meaning that has deepened over time.

“Dhanteras, for me, is about invoking prosperity in every form, not just wealth, but emotional strength, peace, and gratitude,” she says, adding, “It’s a moment to pause and appreciate all the good in our lives, while also opening ourselves up to fresh beginnings.”

Known for her roles in shows like Kasauti Zindagi Kay, Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki, Jamai Raja, and Kavach, Pranitaa has spent years in front of the camera portraying strong, layered characters. Outside the world of television, she has ventured into entrepreneurship and social initiatives through her NGO, Prasara, a reflection of her belief in giving back.

But when it comes to Dhanteras, the focus shifts firmly to family. “Our Dhanteras is always a warm, homey affair,” she shares, adding, “We start with a small pooja, clean our space, light diyas, and decorate with flowers. My daughter Anysha loves helping with the diyas, her eyes light up brighter than the flames, and that makes everything feel magical.”

While the tradition of buying gold or silver is still followed in her home, Pranitaa believes the festival’s true richness lies elsewhere. She says, “Sometimes we pick up a silver coin or something symbolic but I really believe that prosperity is in the energy of the home, the laughter, the good health, the peace we work to create every day.”

Simplicity, she feels, brings more meaning to celebration. She says, “We avoid crackers, light diyas instead, and make sweets at home. It’s important to pass on the message that this festival is as much about giving thanks and spreading joy as it is about rituals. I want Anysha to grow up seeing that.”

Looking back at her own childhood, Dhanteras was always the start of something magical. “I remember my mother carefully crafting vibrant rangolis, while my father would arrive with something new for the kitchen, a small yet meaningful tradition that made the day feel truly festive. That sense of tradition, of fresh energy entering the home, stayed with me. Now that I celebrate with Shivi and Anysha, it feels like I’ve come full circle,” she concludes.
