Every Festival Is A Celebration Of Relationships: Deepakk Dutta
Actor Deepakk Dutta, known for his work across films and OTT projects, has opened up about his cherished bond with his siblings and the special significance Raksha Bandhan holds for him.
Deepakk has featured in acclaimed OTT projects such as Dr. Arora, created by Imtiaz Ali for Sony LIV, and Crash Course, written by Vijay Maurya for Prime Video.
His filmography also includes Daadi Ki Shaadi, M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story, Dil Kabaddi, Bhagat Singh, Haasil, Madhosh and Abhay, among several other projects.
Speaking about his family and the role his siblings have played in his life, Deepakk Dutta shared, We are three brothers and sisters.
I have an elder sister who is almost nine years older than me. She is almost like a mother to me. Then I have my brother, who is again eight years older than me.
So, I am the youngest in the family, and there is quite an age gap between us.
Recalling a difficult phase of his childhood, the actor revealed how his elder sister stepped up to take care of him after the family lost their father.
When I was eight years old, unfortunately, we lost our dad. We came from a middle-class family, so my mother started working.
Deepakk Dutta Opens Up About His Special Bond With His Siblings
My father was only around 40-41 when he passed away. I was very young. My sister was around 17 and my brother was around 16, so my mother had to start working, Deepakk Dutta recalled.
Deepakk further spoke about the special relationship he shares with his sister, who took on a motherly role in his life despite being very young herself.
My elder sister took over from my mother. She was like a mother to me. She herself was in college and was very young, but then she became a mother to me.
My sister took care of me until she got married. She was around 21 when she got married, Deepakk Dutta said.
After his sister’s marriage, Deepakk Dutta‘s elder brother took on the responsibility of looking after him.
After she got married, my brother took over from my sister in raising me. My mother was busy working.
She used to go to the office and come back in the evening, so my brother did what my sister used to do earlier. Then my brother also joined the Indian Army and left when I was around 15-16.
So, yes, I have a lot of memories with my siblings, Deepakk Dutta shared.
Talking about how life eventually took his family members to different cities, Deepakk Dutta added, My sister got married and moved to Mumbai, so both of us are here in Mumbai.
My brother is in Delhi, so unfortunately, he can’t join us. My sister and I are here, and Raksha Bandhan is a very special day for us.
We meet, she ties Rakhi, and it is a very nostalgic feeling because we have so many memories together.
Deepakk Dutta Remembers Raksha Bandhan Celebrations In Joint Families
For Deepakk Dutta, Raksha Bandhan also brings back memories of a time when festivals were celebrated with large joint families.
Raksha Bandhan was such a special festival because it was the time of joint families. You know how joint families used to be.
It was almost like a big function. Everyone would gather at a particular house.
Aunties, uncles and everyone would come together. It used to be a big celebration, Deepakk Dutta said.
The actor fondly remembered how the festival once brought together dozens of family members under one roof.
Earlier, people used to live in the same city, so it used to be a big function. Almost 30-40 people would gather in one house.
Rakhi would be tied, sweets would be given, children would play. It used to feel like a wedding function.
So, I have a lot of beautiful memories associated with Raksha Bandhan, Deepakk Dutta reminisced.
Reflecting on the larger significance of Indian festivals, he added, I think this is the speciality of our country, that we have so many beautiful festivals.
