Madhuri Dixit returns to OTT with Mrs Deshpande; the series drops this December
After making her streaming debut with Netflix’s The Fame Game (2022), Madhuri Dixit will return to streaming with the thriller series Mrs Deshpande, directed by Nagesh Kukunoor. The series is set to premiere on JioHotstar on December 19, 2025.

In Mrs Deshpande, Dixit will play the role of a serial killer for the first time in her career. This marks a complete departure for the actress who is known for drama, love stories and family entertainers. The series is the Hindi adaptation of the 2017 French show La Mante, which followed a convicted killer nicknamed “The Mantis.” In the original, the character is released from solitary confinement to help police track a copycat murderer, with the condition that she work alongside her estranged detective son.
The first look and teaser for Mrs Deshpande were released recently. The teaser shows Dixit cutting vegetables while humming “Bholi Si Surat,” a song from her 1997 film Dil To Pagal Hai. A radio broadcast interrupts the scene, reporting that a serial killer remains at large after eight killings. Dixit’s expression changes as she smirks at the camera, hinting at her possible connection to the crimes.
The series cast includes Siddharth Chandekar and Priyanshu Chatterjee in key roles. While details of their characters have not been disclosed, the adaptation is expected to follow the tense dynamic between Dixit’s character and her son, echoing the mother-son relationship central to La Mante.

The series adds to the growing trend of Indian adaptations of international thrillers, reinterpreting them for local audiences while retaining their psychological depth. Acclaimed filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor, who has recently delivered web shows such as City of Dreams (JioHotstar) and The Hunt – The Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case (2025) is at the helm of Mrs Deshpande.
