“The Sorrow Doesn’t Fade Just Because The Scene Ends”–Shivangi Verma

Shivangi Verma opens up about the emotional intensity of acting, revealing how grief and vulnerability influence her performance long after the camera stops.

She shares the techniques she uses to stay grounded while delivering honest, powerful scenes.

Actress Shivangi Verma, who has worked in shows like Tera Ishq Mera Fitoor and Choti Sarrdaarni, and is currently seen in the web series Yeh Hai Sanak, opens up about the emotional demands of acting, sharing how certain scenes touch her deeply and stay with her long after the director calls “cut.” Speaking about the most difficult emotion to portray, she says, “Grief is the hardest for me. When I do a heavy emotional scene, the sadness doesn’t leave me immediately. It sits in my heart for a while, even after the shot is done.” She explains that grief often reminds her of personal moments, making the performance both challenging and honest.

Shivangi also talks about scenes that mirror real-life situations. “If a script stirs up personal memories, I pause and remind myself that this is just a role, not my reality,” she adds. Before such scenes, she takes time to breathe and calm her mind. After the take, she takes a short break, drinks water, or sits quietly to disconnect from the emotion. “I stay true to the scene, but I also protect my own feelings,” she explains.

There have been moments when the emotion in a scene becomes too real. “There are occasions when I need to step away,” she acknowledges, adding, “Whenever a scene hits harder than expected, I take a moment, walk around, calm myself, wash my face. It helps me steady my emotions so I can push forward.”

Among all emotional shades, vulnerability challenges her the most. “Vulnerability makes me face feelings I normally keep hidden,” she says. Showing her weakest side on camera brings out emotions she rarely expresses in real life, making these scenes powerful yet emotionally demanding.

Talking about emotional boundaries for actors, she believes balance is essential. According to her, caring for one’s mental space is crucial. After emotional scenes, she switches off by listening to music, talking to friends, or doing something light. “I give my emotion to the scene, but I don’t give away my heart. That balance keeps me healthy and inspired,” she adds with a smile.
