Holi is much more than just colors and celebration. The festival, he believes, carries a deeper spiritual meaning that reminds people to embrace positivity and let go of negativity.

“Holi symbolises the victory of good over evil, letting go of ego and negativity, and celebrating love and togetherness,” he says. According to him, the festival also represents equality and unity beyond social barriers. “It is a season when people gather with open hearts, embracing fresh beginnings as spring unfolds,” Heital Puniwala adds.

Talking about his own celebrations, the actor shares that he prefers celebrating Holi in a traditional way. “Holi, for me, begins with the glow of Holika Dahan, the sacred bonfire that lights up the eve of the festival. I enjoy spending time with family, visiting relatives, and sharing sweets like gujiya,” he says. However, he also acknowledges how the festival has evolved over the years. “Earlier, Holi celebrations were simple and more community-oriented, but now they have become larger social events. There is also greater awareness about eco-friendly colors, which is a positive change,” Heital Puniwala adds.

Why Holika Dahan Symbolizes Letting Go of Negativity

Explaining the spiritual significance of Holika Dahan, Puniwala says the ritual is deeply symbolic. “It reminds us of the story of Prahlada and Holika — where faith and truth survived while arrogance and evil were destroyed. The bonfire represents burning negativity, ego, and anger before welcoming the festival of colors,” he says.

Interestingly, the actor prefers being cautious when it comes to playing with colors. “Being an actor means I have to pay extra attention to my skin, as I’m regularly seen on screen. We never know what kind of chemical colors people use, so I try to avoid them,” Heital Puniwala explains. “For me, Holi is less about colors on the skin and more about positivity in the heart.”

Eco-Friendly Holi and Skin Care Awareness

One of his most meaningful Holi memories came when he celebrated the festival at an orphanage. “Instead of playing with colors, I shared sweets, gifts, and time with the children. Their happiness was the most beautiful color I have ever seen,” he says with a smile.

Heital Puniwala concludes by encouraging people to celebrate responsibly. “Celebrate with natural colours, use water responsibly, respect everyone’s space, and be gentle with animals. When we celebrate Holi with awareness, we protect both nature and relationships,” he says.
