From Water Balloons to Family Feasts: Her Childhood Holi Memories, Holi Is About Feeling Colorful From Within, Says Rhythm Sanadhya
Song director Rhythm Sanadhya, who recently directed Mahakumbh fame Monalisa Bhosle in Dil Jania and had earlier directed Kapil Sharma’s Har Safar Mein in Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, is excited to play Holi, which will be celebrated on March 4.
Eco-Friendly Holi: Avoid Water Wastage and Promote Organic Celebrations
She said, “Holi is about feeling more colorful from within, filled with laughter, friends, and family. It truly feels like that one carefree day of the year when the child inside me awakens. It’s one of the best festivals, bringing everyone together.”
As a child, for her, Holi used to be all about packing her backpack with colors, pichkaris, and water balloons and playing with her friends in the colony. Rhythm Sanadhya added, “As we grew up, it became more about socialising. First, I celebrate with my family at home, then I go out with my friends to a party for a while, and I make sure to return early so I can spend the rest of the day with my family.”

She prefers playing Holi with dry, organic colors because she has sensitive skin. Rhythm Sanadhya said, “However, there is always that one notorious friend in the group who ambushes everyone with water balloons and inevitably drags me toward the rain dance.”
“Despite the fun and excitement, I personally do not enjoy wasting water, and I believe water balloons can be quite risky, as they may accidentally hurt someone. For me, Holi is best celebrated in a way that is joyful, safe, and mindful of both people and the environment,” Rhythm Sanadhya added.
Sharing her favourite childhood Holi memory, Rhythm Sanadhya said, “We used to be incredibly excited for Holi when we were kids. We would plan elaborate ‘conspiracies’ about how we were going to attack our friends and people in the neighborhood with water guns and colors. We would wake up very early in the morning to get everything ready, filling water balloons and preparing our supplies.”
“Meanwhile, Mom would apply oil on our skin to prevent dryness and allergies. I still remember my mother packing colorful fryums for me, which I would munch on all day while playing. And once we knew we were done playing, we also knew that my dad would be waiting lovingly with the special feast he had prepared. I truly miss the special samosas he used to make on Holi,” Rhythm Sanadhya added.
Why She Prefers Organic Colors and Safe Celebrations
Asked how people can celebrate Holi in a more eco-friendly and safe way, Rhythm Sanadhya said, “First of all, the use of organic colors is important, and water wastage should be strictly avoided. I believe housing societies can take firm measures in this regard and should refrain from organising rain dance events.”
“Last year, I attended a Holi celebration where we played using only organic flowers and colors, and such events should definitely be promoted. There should also be greater awareness about cleanliness, which is absolutely necessary after the mess often created during Holi celebrations,” Rhythm Sanadhya ended.
