Sudhanshu Pandey, known to millions as Vanraj Shah from Anupamaa, sat down for a candid conversation with Nidhi Vasandani, a former TV journalist, who now runs a YouTube channel where she shares travel stories and other interesting posts, in her podcast. Though he has done films and music, he understands that Anupamaa gave him popularity.
Asked whether the identity of Vanraj had overtaken his identity as a film actor, he said, “I do feel that. Because I have done more than 50 films. Not only have I done many Hindi films, but I have also done South Indian films, including some very big ones that were among the biggest films in India. I also worked in ‘Robo 2.0’ in a negative role, and I did a Hollywood film with Jackie Chan.”
Sudhanshu Pandey Opens Up About His Post-Anupamaa Popularity
“I have worked a lot as an actor. The spectrum was very wide. But when I was offered ‘Anupamaa‘, I had never really thought that I would ever do television or a daily show, because it was the first daily show of my life. I used to be scared, thinking, What kind of schedule must this be? Oh no, I’ll have to shoot every day, 12 hours a day,” Sudhanshu Pandey added.
Talking about how different television felt from the work he was used to, Sudhanshu Pandey said, “I was used to films, OTT projects, or any other kind of work. Normally, it’s not very hectic. It can get hectic at times, but it is not a constant thing. Television has a very different way of functioning. The working style is very, very different. It is an extremely demanding business because it is a daily format. You have to deliver seven episodes in seven days. The work is that rigorous.”
“We used to deliver seven episodes, and in that process you have to work continuously. And it’s not just about working. Talking about 12 hours is one thing, but when you have to perform, you’re performing very intense scenes, very dramatic scenes. There are a lot of emotions involved in it. And for an actor like me, I feel the overall stress of working is greater because I become very involved as an actor with my character, in playing my character and building my character,” Sudhanshu Pandey added.
Nidhi Vasandani’s Podcast Brings Out A Different Side Of Sudhanshu Pandey
Elaborating on what he believes an actor’s real job is, Sudhanshu Pandey said, “An actor’s job is not just to read the lines and speak them. An actor’s job is to take the character that has been given to him and shape it as beautifully as possible. A diamond is found in a coal mine, right? But if you don’t cut and polish that diamond, you won’t be able to use it and you can’t make it beautiful. So an actor’s job is to polish the diamond that has been given to him, that character.”
