Mercedes-Benz has rolled out the made in India Maybach GLS SUV and it is lesser priced than the fully imported avatar which brings in a price of Rs 2.75 crore. The Maybach sub brand is even more luxurious than Mercedes-Benz and that means its cars are targeting the super-rich and the elite in India. The Maybach GLS as the name says is based on the GLS SUV but the interior is much more luxurious and the exterior is different too.
There is a different Maybach GLS grille upfront and the wheels are bigger as well at 23 inch while there are Maybach logos on the side. There is a lot more chrome and it looks huge with a lot of bling being added in. The real deal is on the inside thigh with soft white Maybach leather covering every surface while the interior comes with every luxury imaginable.
The real talking point though is the rear seat which is aimed for the owners since this is where they will spend most of their time. The four-seat configuration is preferred which means the rear seat has two separate ones divided by a console. The seats come with every luxury and you can stretch out too while there is heating/massage and ventilated as well plus adjustments. You can even sip champagne with a fridge plus champagne flutes while connectivity is there to get your next deal to be worked on. It is more luxurious than a private jet here.
The pinstriping and the luxury elements take it further than a Mercedes-Benz here. The Maybach GLS comes with a smooth V8 powertrain fed with a mild hybrid system. It is silent and tasked with the idea of taking its owners as quickly and as quietly as possible. There is special Maybach tuned suspension too for its owners not to be shaken about at the back.
For India, the GLS Maybach has been very successful since it is practical as an SUV but comes with all the high-end luxuries. It is priced also more keenly which undercuts rivals but pampers more. The stance and the appeal are also added with the sheer size of the car which means it is a private jet for the road.
With the new locally assembled version of the Maybach GLS, Mercedes-Benz clearly wants to dominate this segment and Rs 2.75 crore and is actually pretty good value for what you get. Expect to see a lot more of these around the moneyed circles of India now.
