Dancer-turned-actor Sanam Johar opens up about his acting debut in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, sharing how he embraced the challenge of joining an ongoing show and how support from his girlfriend Abigail Pande and the team helped him grow into the role.
After making a name for himself in the world of dance, choreographer Sanam Johar — known for his stellar performances and mentorship in dance reality shows like Nach Baliye, DID Super Moms, Dare 2 Dance, and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa — took a surprising new turn in his career.
This February, he made his acting debut in the long-running Star Plus drama Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, which has been captivating audiences since October 2020.
In an exclusive conversation with Downtown Mirror Weekly, Sanam Johar opened up about his bold decision to join an ongoing daily soap, his growth as an actor, and how his girlfriend, actress Abigail Pande, has reacted to this new chapter in his life.
Speaking about stepping into a show that’s already a household name, Sanam Johar shared, “I just wanted to act, and what better place to start than with a popular and established show like Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin. It’s already got a massive fan base and airs on one of the biggest Hindi entertainment channels — Star Plus. I thought, why miss such a golden opportunity? I told myself, ‘Let’s dive in and work some magic!’”
Was he nervous about joining a show that had already found its rhythm? “I wasn’t apprehensive at all,” Sanam Johar said confidently, adding, “I’ve always been hungry to learn, and I believe in learning something new every single day.
Even after coming on this set, I continue to learn from all the amazing actors around me. Yes, I was nervous at first, but everyone — from the cast to the director — has been so supportive. Jafar Shaikh, our director, has truly been a blessing. He’s guided me patiently and helped me find my footing.”
Sanam Johar humbly credits the team for his transformation from dancer to actor, adding that his growth hasn’t gone unnoticed — especially by Abigail and his mother. He shares, “They’re both extremely proud of me. Abigail did give me some honest feedback in the beginning, saying I could improve.
But now, two months in, she’s thrilled to see how far I’ve come. All the credit goes to our incredible director, DOP, light men, the creative team, and of course, the cast. The vibe on this set is so positive that everything just flows naturally.”
With this new chapter, Sanam Johar is proving that his artistry knows no bounds — be it the stage or the screen. And if his journey so far is any indication, the best is yet to come.
