Amit Dolawat On Joining Kabhi Neem Neem Kabhi Shahad Shahad: I Don’t Chase Fame, I Chase Meaningful Work

Amit Dolawat joins Kabhi Neem Neem Kabhi Shahad Shahad as Shlok, a modern-day Cupid, bridging hearts and generations alike.

Known for choosing substance over spotlight, the actor embraces a role that blends meaning, charm, and connection.

Not every actor is driven by the glitz of fame. Some, like Amit Dolawat, are in it for the craft, the variety, and the joy of telling meaningful stories. That’s why he’s comfortable waiting for the right opportunity in Hindi television. After his recent stint as an advocate in Jhanak, Amit is ready to don a different hat—that of a modern-day Cupid—in Kabhi Neem Neem Kabhi Shahad Shahad.

So how important is this “Cupid”? Pretty crucial. Amit’s character, Shlok, will bring together the show’s lead couple, played by Afia Tayebali and Abrar Qazi. Now, who doesn’t want more love in the world?

Talking about his role, Amit Dolawat shares, “I play Shlok, who’s integral to the storyline. He’s essentially the Cupid between the ‘neem neem’ and the ‘shahad shahad’ (referring to Afia and Abrar’s characters). He’s also a bridge between the older and newer generations in the show. He understands both perspectives and brings everyone onto the same page. Whatever I’ve shot so far has been very engaging.”

At this point in his career, Amit is clear about his priorities. “I won’t take up anything unless it offers substance or satisfies me as an artiste,” he says, adding, “That’s why I spent the last three and a half years improving my Marathi and exploring regional content. The Marathi industry gave me rich roles and kept my passion alive.”

So what drew him back to Hindi television?

“This role had an instant appeal. There were many reasons—familiarity with some team members like Shweta Bishnoi, Dhananjay Kumar Pandey, and Arpita Das (she is associated with the production house). I’ve worked with Shweta before on Diya Aur Baati Hum, where I had a strong, performance-heavy role. I trust her judgment,” he explains.

Amit also praises the show’s director, Vikram, calling him “a breath of fresh air” and “performance-oriented, which is rare these days.” He adds, “I am a bit skeptical about taking on daily soaps because very few people are able to do justice to large casts without sidelining some characters. But I’ve already shot for about 18–20 days, and they’re doing justice to every character. The show tackles everyday problems but in a light-hearted, engaging way. The overall flair is really impressive.”
