Shiwani Chakraborty On Her Dance In Anupamaa: I’m Excited, But I Have To Be Careful

After months of battling rib and wrist injuries, Anupamaa actress Shiwani Chakraborty is returning to her first love — dance—with cautious excitement.

As she joins a major dance sequence on the show, she opens up about her struggles, healing, and deep passion for dancing.

You can imagine the frustration of being unable to pursue what you love most—apart from acting, of course. For Anupamaa actress Shiwani Chakraborty, that passion is dance. After enduring months of limited movement due to a rib injury and a more recent wrist fracture, she had to put her dancing on pause. Playing Meeta in the popular show, Shiwani often found herself quietly watching her co-actors perform, her heart yearning to join them.

Thankfully, that difficult period is behind her—at least to some extent. With her recovery still ongoing, Shiwani Chakraborty is now preparing for an exciting dance competition sequence in the upcoming episodes of Anupamaa.

Dancing Through Pain: Shiwani’s Journey Back

Shiwani Chakraborty shares, “In the upcoming episodes, there will be a dance sequence. Raahi (Adrija Roy) has formed a dance group to participate in a competition. As a family, we all support her. So, my bahu Pari (Ishita Dixit), Raahi, me and some of her group members will be part of this group.”

Shiwani Chakraborty’s love for dance runs deep, and being kept away from it was tough. “Everyone knows how passionate I am about dancing,” she says, adding, “I’ve had rib and wrist fractures, and I’m still healing after surgery. It feels great that, after such a long time, I finally get to dance. During many shoots—like the haldi or mending sequences—I had to sit out because I couldn’t handle heavy movements. The production team would always ask me to rest and take care. I missed dancing a lot, so I’m really happy to get this opportunity now.”

Any dancer will tell you—real dancing is about losing yourself in the moment. But healing bones don’t always allow that luxury. Shiwani admits, “Being a dancer, we often forget we need to take care—like protecting the wrist. But my team and co-actors are amazing; they remind me gently, and sometimes scold me a bit when I get carried away. They make sure I’m being careful. Precautions are in place.”

Dancing Through Pain: Shiwani’s Journey Back

Shiwani Chakraborty adds, “Dance requires energy and free hand movements, and I know I can’t give 100 percent right now. There are restrictions on hand movements because of the surgery and healing, but I’ll try my best to make it look good. Since I’m performing with a team, I don’t want to let them down—and I’ll look after myself too. I’ve gotten the chance to dance after so long, and I will—but carefully.”

Shiwani Chakraborty reflects with honesty and grace, “It does feel bad when you’re restricted from doing something you’re so passionate about. There were steps choreographed where I felt—if my hand had been okay, I’d have nailed them. But again, I have to remember: Jaan hai toh jahaan hai. A little more patience is needed—that’s okay. Even if I can’t give 100 percent now, I’ll live with it. I want to work more in the future and do it well, so I need to take care of myself. Health is the top priority. Even the choreographers are mindful—they jokingly say, ‘Ye hamari tooti-phooti participant hai.’ So yes, overall, I’m extremely excited.”

Shiwani Chakraborty’s spirit and resilience shine through—and fans will surely be rooting for her return to the dance floor.
