Actress Kiran Dubey opens up about the true meaning of friendship ahead of Friendship Day, emphasizing that genuine bonds deserve to be celebrated daily.
From childhood friends to industry connections, she shares how these relationships shape her life.
As Friendship Day approaches on August 3, actress Kiran Dubey, known for her work in TV shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, and her Indian film debut 5th September, reflects on the deeper meaning of friendship in her life.
Every Day is Friendship Day–Kiran Dubey’s Heartfelt Belief
For Kiran Dubey, friendship isn’t tied to a date on the calendar, it’s something to be celebrated every single day.
“I don’t celebrate Friendship Day in a traditional way; I celebrate friendship every day because I come from the Osho vichardhara, the Osho thought process,” she shares, adding, “I feel that being alive itself is a special occasion. My close friend Deep once told me, ‘Kiran, don’t wait for beautiful occasions to burn that special candle, just burn it.’ That thought has stayed with me, and I live by it.”
Finding True Friends in the Industry
To Have a Good Friend, Be One First
When it comes to the entertainment industry, Kiran Dubey feels fortunate. She says,
“People often say it’s tough to make friends here because life moves so fast. But I feel lucky because I have wonderful friends in the industry. My closest female friend is Ashlesha Sawant, and Vipul Shah, the television producer, is also a dear friend and mentor. These bonds mean the world to me. I believe that to have a good friend, you must first be a good friend, both to others and to yourself.”
Simple Moments, Deep Connections
Friendship Over Coffee and Cake
Her idea of quality time with friends is rooted in simplicity. “I live in Pune, which has some beautiful cafés. I love sitting with my friends over coffee, having heart-to-heart conversations, and laughing until it’s embarrassing.
The last time I met Ashlesha was in one of these cafés. I even met her mother, who used to bake cakes and send them to Bombay, we’d finish them in one go! Holidays and parties are fun, but nothing beats real, face-to-face conversations.”
Kiran Dubey also treasures her childhood friendships, describing them as effortless and pure. She shares, “I grew up in Dehradun, and many of my school friends have moved across India or abroad.
But I’m still close to a few, like Pam and Purnima. These friendships are unshakeable, they were formed before life became complicated.”
Today, Kiran Dubey feels blessed to have a balance of old and new friendships. “I have immense love and respect for Ashlesha Sawant, not just as an actress but as a person.
She lives her life truthfully, honestly, and completely bindass. Whether it’s childhood friends or those from the industry, these relationships are priceless.”
Kiran leaves a heartfelt message for Friendship Day. “Don’t wait for a single day to celebrate friendship. Cherish your friends every day, because these bonds are what truly make life worth living,” she concludes.
