Krishna Bhatt Opens Up On Office Office Chali Musaddi Ki Beti, Comedy Timing & The Need For More Family Shows
Krishna Bhatt has spent 27 to 28 years making people laugh. So when Eagle Films’ Office Office Chali Musaddi Ki Beti came his way, the answer was never really in question, it was the kind of project that does not need much deliberation.
Why Krishna Bhatt Enjoyed Working With Eagle Films Again
He said, “The first reason for doing this show is the name itself. Office Office is a brand, it is a cult show and a very successful one. Eagle Films is one of the best production houses. I have worked with them before as well. Eagle Films is like a family to me.”
“Then Rajan ji, who is one of the masters of comedy shows. I have worked with him before too, so there is already a good tuning. So obviously, it was fun working on it, and I am sure people will also enjoy watching it,” Krishna Bhatt added.
The character he plays, Pandey ji, and he is particular about the full name, is not a one-note creation. Krishna Bhatt said, “Do not call him just Pandey, I will get offended. It is one character, but with many shades. In every episode you will see different shades of my character.”
“In some, he is a peon, in some he is a security guard, and in some he is an employee. These different shades have always been fun to perform, and I believe you will enjoy watching them as well,” Krishna Bhatt added.
Krishna Bhatt Calls Office Office A Cult Brand
On what comedy genuinely demands, Krishna goes straight to the thing that most people overlook. Krishna Bhatt said, “The more seriously you stay in the character and the situation, the more the audience will laugh, enjoy, and have fun. So you have to remain serious in the situation, be genuine, and go into the moment and play the character. And timing is very important in comedy. Without timing, everything gets missed.”
His approach to the craft comes from a theatre foundation that has shaped everything he has done since. Krishna Bhatt said, “The approach depends on how you present the character. If there is a situation where Pandey ji is stuck in something or going through a tragedy, I play it very seriously. That is when the audience finds it funny and enjoys it.”
The Actor Explains Why Timing Is Everything In Comedy
“Timing, tuning with other actors, and reactions are very important. In comedy, reactions are extremely important because if you do something and there is no reaction from the other side, the punch does not land. Good writing is also important, and the director also helps a lot. Overall, it is a team effort,” Krishna Bhatt added.
The rehearsal process on this show had its own rhythm, structured but never rigid. Krishna Bhatt said, “What happens is we used to get the script first, so we would read it, understand it, and then go in front of the director for a reading. Then there would be a final reading, after that camera rehearsals with improvisations and all, with moments and everything, and then the final take. This whole process itself was fun because if you enjoy it, then the audience will also enjoy it.”
On the dwindling number of good comedy shows on Indian television, he does not mince words about what he thinks the industry is missing. Krishna Bhatt said, “Comedy shows have reduced a lot and there are not even channels now that only show comedy shows. Earlier, it used to be that some channels only had comedy shows. But now stress has increased and comedy shows have reduced.”
Krishna Bhatt Believes Indian Television Needs More Comedy Shows
“I believe there should be more and more comedy shows so that people can step away from their stressful lives, sit with their family while having food, watch comedy shows, laugh a little, enjoy, and get relief from stress. I believe there should be healthy comedy so that the whole family can sit together and watch,” Krishna Bhatt ended.
